Spain, along with five other countries – Denmark, France, Italy, Portugal and San Marino – has contributed to the creation of the International Pitch & Putt Association (IPPA), whose headquarters have been located in Madrid since the foundations for its establishment were laid on April 2, 2009.
The IPPA is a non-profit association in which the RFEG (representing Spain) holds the First Vice Presidency. Its objectives are:
– The organization and regulation of international competitions between member countries.
– Facilitate the expansion of Pitch&Putt, in coordination with international golf organizations.
– To promote and develop the dissemination of Pitch&Putt, for which the IPPA will carry out international competitions, courses, conferences, colloquiums, meetings, study groups, public events, publication of books, brochures or periodicals, organization of recreational and sporting activities, etc.
– To promote and develop a policy of 'fair play', protection of children and a drug-free environment.
– Promote and develop a short game or Pitch & Putt environment that is neither sexist nor racist.
The IPPA brings together those organizations whose objective is to develop, both nationally and internationally, Pitch & Putt, a golf specialty of growing acceptance both in Spain and in Europe and which is characterized, mainly, by three unique elements: it is practiced on short par 3 golf courses, there is the possibility that the tee times are made from an artificial surface and a limited number of clubs can be used.
Pitch & Putt, at the national level in Spain, is considered a golf discipline and is therefore regulated and managed by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation. This is acknowledged and shared by the Spanish Sports Council, the highest governing body for sports in Spain, the European Golf Association (EGA), and Mr. Duncan Weir, Director of Golf Development at the R&A.
Since 2004, the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation) has had a specific Technical Committee for this golf specialty within its organization and annually holds a National Pitch & Putt Circuit, apart from the Spanish Championships of the different categories and various international tournaments in which Spain, for the moment, remains undefeated.
The IPPA's upcoming objectives include organizing international competitions involving an increasing number of countries, with the short- to medium-term goal of establishing the European Pitch & Putt Championships. For more information: www.ippa.org
