At the Green Paddock course in Madrid, and facing stiff competition from a formidable Asturian team, the Cantabrian squad travels to the Spanish Interterritorial Pitch & Putt Championship aiming for their third consecutive victory in four editions. The competition will be decided in Madrid on June 12th and 13th.

Since the founding of this attractive tournament by the Pitch & Putt Committee of the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation) in 2007, only Andalusia has managed to challenge the dominance of Cantabria. That was in the first edition of the championship, and since then, Cantabria's dominance has been absolute. Once again relying on Álvaro Fernández Ochoa (2.5) and Carlos Garrido (0.3), and with the second lowest handicap (8.9), they are vying for the spotlight on the eve of the tournament.

Of the 15 participants, however, the lowest handicap belongs to Asturias (-2.4), which has entrusted the quest for its first title to players with renowned experience such as Hugo Menéndez (-1) and Alberto Fernández (-1.1). No other team boasts such established players in top-level national competitions, and this could prove decisive during the two days of play at Green Paddock.

It is also worth highlighting the candidacies of Andalusia (15.5) – due to its status as champion in 2007 and the experience of players like Andrés Pastor (3.6) – and Madrid (13.4), which has in its ranks the most decorated Spanish golfer of recent times, Carlos González (1.2).

In addition, the following regions take part in the test: Canary Islands (16.5), Castile and León (19), Galicia (25.8), Balearic Islands (27.8), Navarre (31.6), Basque Country (35.2), Extremadura (37.5), Murcia (38.8), Valencia (39.9), Castile-La Mancha (51.2) and Aragon (73).

In previous editions, held in Torre Pacheco (Murcia), Villa Mayor (Salamanca), and El Campanario (Málaga), the winners were Andalusia the first time, and Cantabria the following two times. Last year, the Cantabrians narrowly edged out the Andalusians.
