From July 2nd to 4th, Tecina Golf will once again become the epicenter of international professional golf with the Fred. Olsen Alps La Gomera tournament. This event, established as one of the most important on the Alps Tour, is a key fixture on the European development calendar for the sport's future stars.
The tournament will celebrate its sixth edition on the spectacular course of La Gomera, reinforcing the link between the circuit and a course that has established itself as one of the most valued venues by players, organization and fans, thanks to the uniqueness of its design and the unparalleled beauty of its surroundings.
As a prelude to the professional competition, the traditional event will take place on July 1st.
Pro-Am, a day that will allow fans and companies to share the route with professionals and experience from within one of the most important international sporting events hosted by the island.
A unique design defying the Atlantic
Considered one of the best golf courses in the Canary Islands, Tecina Golf offers a unique experience. Located on the Lomada de Tecina hill, in the south of La Gomera, the course commands a privileged position overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, offering players breathtaking views of Mount Teide and the waters that separate the western islands of the archipelago.
Designed by the prestigious British architect Donald Steel, the course features an unusual configuration that makes it one of the most unique courses in Europe: players ascend to the first tee before beginning a continuous descent throughout the 18 holes.
“It’s the most exciting and challenging project I’ve ever designed and built. It’s unusual because you have to climb up to the first tee and then the entire course is downhill. The views are breathtaking,” said Donald Steel himself about this design that has already become an international benchmark.
Measuring 6,343 meters from the white tees and with a par of 71, Tecina Golf combines a challenging course with natural beauty. Its fairways and greens blend seamlessly into the landscape of La Gomera, surrounded by native Canarian vegetation such as tabaiba and cardón cacti, as well as fruit trees like banana, mango, and avocado. This unique character is further enhanced by its location on an island declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2012, where nature, sustainability, and sport coexist in perfect harmony.
A common setting for professional golf
Tecina Golf's relationship with elite sport has strengthened over the last two decades. The course has hosted a total of 19 professional tournaments, including Challenge Tour and Alps Tour events. Its fairways have seen some of the biggest names in world golf, including American Brooks Koepka, who won at Tecina during his time on the Challenge Tour.
Since joining the Alps Tour calendar in 2018, the Fred. Olsen Alps La Gomera has crowned champions such as Alfredo García Heredia, Gonzalo Vicente, Vince Van Veen, and Gianmaria Rean Trinchero. The latest to join this list is Andrea Romano, the brilliant winner of the 2025 edition after posting a spectacular score of 19 under par. The Italian player is, in fact, the best example of the tournament as a springboard to the elite: after stringing together three victories so far in the 2026 season, Romano has achieved the demanding automatic promotion to the Challenge Tour, a category in which he now competes immediately.
Beyond the strictly sporting aspect, the tournament represents a powerful promotional platform for La Gomera, projecting internationally the image of the island as a destination for active tourism, nature and golf 365 days a year.
The Fred. Olsen Alps La Gomera, to be held from July 1-4, 2026 at Tecina Golf, is supported by Fred. Olsen, SA, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, the Spanish National Sports Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the La Gomera Island Council, the Canary Islands Golf Federation, the Alps Tour, and Kyocera. The tournament promoter and organizer is JGolf.
