Joint statement from Spanish golf institutions – Qualifications required for teaching in our country

The Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG), the PGA of Spain (Professional Golfers' Association of Spain), the Spanish Association of Golf Courses…

The Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG), the PGA of Spain (Association of Professional Golfers of Spain), the Spanish Association of Golf Courses (AECG) and the Spanish Association of Golf Managers (AEGG) issue this joint official statement to remind everyone of the current legal framework regarding the qualifications required for teaching golf in our country.

Golf instruction in Spain is currently in a transitional period, during which key regulatory adaptations are taking place to organize professional qualifications. Order ECD/158/2014, of February 5, specifically regulates the curricular aspects, requirements, and effects of sports training activities during this transitional period, establishing the national validity for teaching golf and pitch & putt.

Official Training Programs jointly promoted by the CSD and the RFEG:

○ Sports Technician in Golf and Pitch & Putt: TD·1 – TD·2 (Intermediate Level).

○ Higher Sports Technician in Golf: TD·3 (Higher Degree).

Furthermore, the former purely federative qualifications issued in previous periods have been subject to successive resolutions by the CSD (Spanish National Sports Council) published in the BOE (Official State Gazette) to allow their validation or direct access to the new levels through "Comprehensive Tests," thus integrating them into the official framework of the Ministry of Education. Therefore, the previous federative qualifications are:

○ Monitor

○ Teacher's Assistant

○ Teacher

The Bachelor's/Degree in Sciences of Physical Activity and Sport (CCAFYDE/INEF) with specialization in Golf (according to the legislation of the corresponding Autonomous Community), will be valid exclusively for initiation under the tutelage of a teacher with a valid Official Qualification.

Top-level foreign professional qualifications that fall under the framework of recognized Professional Golf Associations (PGA), and are comparable to the content standard according to the PGA of Spain and the RFEG.

Finally, and for clarification, private or international certifications without approval from the Higher Sports Council, as well as the status of professional player, do not legally or statutorily qualify one to teach golf in federated facilities in Spain.
