With LIV Golf returning to Real Club Valderrama this week, few players arrive with such a strong connection to this iconic venue as Sergio Garcia.
Throughout 18 appearances as a professional at Valderrama over more than 25 years, Sergio Garcia has achieved 17 top 10 finishes and four victories, including his win at the LIV Golf Andalucía in 2024. His only performance outside the top ten was in 2007.
The statistics demonstrate just how dominant the golfer from Castellón has been on one of the most demanding courses in Europe. He is averaging +3.02 strokes per round against the other players at Valderrama, which is more than 1.5 strokes higher than his historical average, and has recorded positive stroke gains in 17 of his 18 appearances on this course.
Sergio Garcia's success is built on the qualities that Valderrama demands most: precision, iron play, and a world-class short game. Compared to his career averages, when he competes at Valderrama he hits more fairways, signs more greens in regulation, and gains significantly more strokes both around the greens and with the putter.
“It’s always a very, very special week to be here again, to be at Valderrama, my favorite course, and well, in front of our people… One of the things I’ve always liked about Valderrama is that it’s a course where you feel like you have to use every club in your bag,” Sergio García declared.
“The fact that Sergio is one of the few players in history to have won multiple championships here shows how difficult this course is. You have to play sensational golf. It really suits his strengths because he hits the ball incredibly well and is a master in the wind, but even so, you have to go out there and do it, and it’s never easy to win at home,” said Jon Rahm, another of the tournament’s top players.
With four victories under his belt, the support of the local crowd and one of the best records on a single course in modern golf, Sergio Garcia starts once again at the LIV Golf Andalucía as one of the great rivals to beat.
