Alfredo García Heredia has signed a historic card of 58 strokes, the best round at the Ciudad Real Golf Course and the lowest result on the TUMI Spain Golf Tour

The Asturian golfer shattered Sigot López's previous day's 59 strokes and set a new circuit record of 121 strokes over 36 holes, leading at -20 heading into Sunday's final. Julio Moreno Mendoza (-18) and Emilio Cuartero Blanco (-17, also with a 59 today) are his main rivals.

If Sigot López made history yesterday with a 59, today Alfredo García Heredia went straight for the record books. The Asturian golfer completed the second round of the IV Ciudad Real Open of the PGA of Spain with a round of 58 strokes—the best round in the history of the Ciudad Real Golf Course and the lowest score ever recorded on the TUMI Spain Golf Tour—and takes the sole lead with a total of -20, two strokes ahead of Julio Moreno Mendoza (-18).

The Ciudad Real Golf Course is once again the setting for exceptional golf this May. García Heredia carded a flawless 58, accumulating 121 strokes over the first two days and setting the best combined score in the history of the Ciudad Real Open. What's most remarkable is the context: two consecutive rounds under 60—Sigot López with a 59 on Friday, García Heredia with a 58 on Saturday—make this tournament an unprecedented event in the 2026 national professional golf season.

“The course is very forgiving and in impressive condition. Many Challenge Tour or DP World Tour tournaments would give anything for greens like these. When you play well and the course gives you opportunities on the greens, you take advantage of them; today I took advantage of practically every one. The greens, especially the back nine, are small and require a good iron shot to get the ball there. It worked out well.”.

Julio Moreno Mendoza is lurking two strokes behind the leader, with a total of 123 strokes (-18), having played two consistent rounds of 62 and 61. The Sevillian has reached the final in the best position of his career in this tournament, as he acknowledged after finishing his round:

“Everything I’ve put in these past months is finally paying off. I’m sticking very closely to the game plan I set for myself, and it’s working out really well. The course is in amazing condition, the greens are wonderful. The plan won’t change for tomorrow, and above all, I want to enjoy it, because it’s one of the first times I’ve been in this situation.”.

The third contender is Emilio Cuartero Blanco (-17, 124 strokes), who today equaled Sigot's historic 59 with a second round of exceptional skill. The battle for the podium is wide open: Daniel Berná Manzanares and Carlos Balmaseda Sánchez share fourth place at -16 (125 strokes), just four strokes behind the leader.

The hero of the first day, Sigot López, couldn't maintain the stratospheric level of his 59 and carded a 68 today, dropping down the standings to share tenth place with a total of -14. He remains in contention for the final day, but will need an exceptional round to threaten a leader who today set the bar higher than ever before on the tour.

The final round of the IV Ciudad Real Open takes place tomorrow, Sunday, at the Ciudad Real Golf Course. Alfredo García Heredia starts as the overwhelming favorite with a two-stroke lead, but the tight chasing pack—four players within four strokes of each other for second through fifth place—guarantees a battle to the very last hole. The tournament awards points for the José María Olazábal Order of Merit of the III TUMI Spain Golf Tour 2026, the overall lead of which is at stake.
