The Valencian Community aims to continue its dominance at the 2026 Spanish Women's Amateur Championship at Infinitum Golf (La Pineda, Tarragona), where play begins this Sunday, June 14th. Following victories in the last two editions, which ended a nineteen-year drought, the Valencian team boasts a strong squad led by American players.
Cloe Amión, Balma Dávalos, Lucía Valderrama, and Julia Ballester, fresh from a demanding university season across the Atlantic, lead a Valencian team (cumulative handicap +22) that has lost a key player like Rocío Tejedo compared to last year. Martina Navarro and Clara Uso complete the squad.
In 2024, the Valencian Community broke Madrid's overwhelming dominance, which had seen them accumulate four consecutive victories thanks to the representatives of the female Golden Generation: Paula Martín, Andrea Revuelta, Cayetana Fernández, and Paula Francisco, not to mention Blanca Fernández and Carolina López-Chacarra, who also played key roles in those editions. Now, Madrid (+7.6) faces a changing of the guard with up to three extremely talented junior golfers: Icíar Rodríguez, Alejandra Hernández, and Rut Díaz.
Also aiming high on the starting line are teams like Catalonia (+20.1), with Daniela Campillo, Anna Cañadó or Alexandra Vidal in their ranks; Andalusia (+17.2), with Violeta Fernández-Tagle at the forefront, or the Basque Country (+12.7), which relies on the brand new Spanish Absolute Champion, Paula Balanzategui.
The list of participating teams is completed by the teams representing Aragon (10.4), La Rioja (12), Castilla y León (12.6), Galicia (13.8), Murcia (16.9), Canary Islands (17.9), Principality of Asturias (19.4), Cantabria (27.2), Balearic Islands (27.5), Castilla La Mancha (43.5) and Extremadura (52.5).
As a curious fact, for the first time three sisters are participating in the tournament at the same time, they are the Cantabrian Inés, Marina and Lucía González Ortega.
The tournament, as usual, consists of a qualifying phase (Stroke Play), now with two days of matches, and a second elimination phase (Match Play). In the first phase, it is imperative to qualify among the top eight to access the first flight, which will include the title contenders in the subsequent head-to-head matches.
Women from Catalonia, Madrid, and Asturias have dominated in recent years
Since Catalonia held absolute hegemony between 2006 and 2010, winning five titles in a row, four teams have shared the victories: the Madrid team (2011, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023), the Asturian team (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017), the Andalusian team (2018) and the Valencian team (2024 and 2025).
