Jon López-Lanchares secured a hard-fought victory in the Spanish Men's Mid Amateur Championship

The Basque player completed the comeback he started on the second day to secure the victory in Neguri.

The 2026 Spanish Mid-Amateur Men's Championship, a qualifying event for the National Ranking, has concluded at the Real Sociedad Golf de Neguri with the final victory of Jon López-Lanchares.

The Basque player started the last round in second position, just one stroke behind first place, held by Pablo Heredia, but he has managed to maintain the level of play that led him to recover five places in the standings the day before.

Jon López-Lanchares wasn't as inspired as he was that time, but a final round of 72 strokes, even par, was enough to give him the victory with a total of 214 strokes (-2) and two strokes less than Pablo Heredia, who finished in second place.

The podium of this Spanish Mid-Amateur Men's Championship was completed by Óscar Ochotorena, after moving up one place and taking that spot from José Talavera, who finished fourth along with Genis Alberti, another of the outstanding players at the start of the event.

Maximum equality at the start of the tournament

The 2026 Spanish Mid-Amateur Men's Championship opened at the Real Sociedad Golf de Neguri facilities with a first day marked by equality.

This is further evidenced by the fact that three players like Pablo Heredia, José Talavera and Genis Alberti are at the top of the leaderboard, all with scores of 71 strokes (-1), the only ones below par for the day.

Just one stroke behind this trio were three other players: Óscar Ochotorena, Jaume Montalat and Miguel Díaz-Negrete.

Pablo Heredia, sole leader after the second day

The 2026 Spanish Mid-Amateur Men's Championship completed its second day, placing Pablo Heredia as the sole leader.

The Andalusian player, who started the day at the top of the leaderboard alongside José Talavera and Genis Alberti, managed to improve his first-day round by delivering 70 strokes (-2) and with a total of 141 strokes (-3) he remained alone at the top of the leaderboard, with one stroke advantage over Jon López-Lanchares, one of the names of the day by signing a card of 69 strokes (-4) and moving up five places in the provisional overall standings.

Third place went to José Talavera, with a total of 145 strokes (+1), on a day that also served to establish the mandatory cut in the classification, which was saved by 66 players.

Third of the four scoring events

This Spanish Mid Amateur Men's Championship took over in 2021 from the traditional Spanish Championship for Over 30s and the record for victories in this event is held by Miguel Preysler, a true reference in Spanish amateur golf, with five (1994, 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001).

This was also the third qualifying event for the 2026 Men's National Mid-Amateur Ranking. The first was the Madrid Championship, held at La Moraleja and won by Iñigo Carmona, and the second was the Catalonia Cup, won by Luis Tomás García at Empordá Golf. The Andalusia Cup remains to be played (June 20 and 21, RC Vista Hermosa).

FINAL RESULTS

1. Jon López-Lanchares (73, 69, 72) 214 hits

2. Pablo Heredia (71, 70, 75) 216 strokes

3. Óscar Ochotorena (72, 74, 71) 217 strokes
