José María Ortiz de Pinedo, from Valladolid, finished second in the 2016 French Open Pitch & Putt, continuing his excellent form. The current Spanish National Champion was two strokes behind the winner, local player Noa Auch-Roy.
Ortiz de Pinedo carded rounds of 50, 45, and 48 strokes for a total of 143 at UGOLF Mionnay-Garden, just outside Lyon. Noel Calzadilla, fifth with 146 strokes, José Ángel Pérez, seventh with 148, and Marcos Gómez, eighth with 151, also secured spots in the Top 10.
This tournament has historically brought good news for Spanish golf; in fact, in 2024, Prakash Aisa from the Canary Islands triumphed at the Golf Bluegreen course in Saint-Étienne. Previous winners include players such as Carlos González (2011), Thomas Artigas (2015 and 2018), Juan Soler (2022), and José María Ortiz de Pinedo (2025), all part of the large group of golfers who have achieved success in major open tournaments held in England, the Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, and San Marino.
