The Royal Spanish Golf Federation has promoted the Assembly of Presidents of Pitch & Putt Committees of Autonomous Federations, an event led by Jesús Barrera, President of the Pitch & Putt Committee of the RFEG, which took place at the facilities of the National Golf Centre.
The aforementioned Assembly addressed various aspects related to the practice of this golf specialty in Spain, emphasizing the importance of the short game both in terms of training and in confirming its role as a true breeding ground for new players.
Not surprisingly, the already established segments of children, beginners and seniors are being joined by other groups of young people and mid-amateurs, a dynamic that will influence the overall increase in licenses by 2025.
The goal is to continue the positive results achieved in previous seasons, with special mention of the high participation in the vast majority of federation competitions, demonstrating the interest that short game generates in our country. A greater presence of young players in the top positions of each tournament also indicates a gradual generational shift.
Spanish Individual Championships of all categories – Absolute Male and Female; Mid-Amateur; Senior; Under 16 and Benjamin – as well as by teams – Inter-regional, Inter-club, Doubles – apart from a series of Qualifying Events that also form part of the preparation of the Ranking that allows the selection of the national teams, make up the wide range of competitions that are complemented by all those carried out by each of the Autonomous Federations in their territorial demarcations.
Furthermore, and after the relevant presentation of the members of the RFEG Pitch & Putt Committee and the presidents of the Pitch & Putt Committees of the Autonomous Federations, the meeting included a summary of the growing activity of this RFEG Committee over the last few years, in addition to discussing different issues related to the celebration of the various Spanish Pitch & Putt Championships that make up the annual federation calendar.
Two reports, one on the Spanish Championship Access System (SACE) and the other on short course adjustments, completed the agenda of this Assembly of Presidents of Pitch & Putt Committees from Regional Federations. The event, described by all attendees as a very interesting and timely meeting, was used to put forward various proposals aimed at improving this golf discipline in both its organizational and competitive aspects throughout Spain.
