Fifty-four golfers will enjoy the seventeenth edition of the Spanish Senior Men's Pitch & Putt Championship this weekend, February 21st and 22nd, at the Masía de las Estrellas Golf Club in Catarroja (Valencia). Javier Niederleytner, from Madrid, as the defending champion, is the player to beat.

The list of contenders includes other former winners, such as Rafael Santonja (2017 and 2018), Juan Fernández Ardavin (2016 and 2021), Marcos Gómez (2024), Ángel Ríos (2019), José Ángel Pérez (2014), and José López (2012). Also competing are other players who regularly rank among the top contenders in this golf discipline, including César Fernández de Caleya—the current Spanish Mid-Amateur Champion—Juan Soler, Luis Montero, Simón Daniel Varela, and Javier Marroquín.

As has been the custom in recent years, the tournament is held in three rounds: the first two are played on Saturday and the third on Sunday morning.

Once again, Bodegas Habla is sponsoring the competition, awarding a valuable Magnum to players who achieve a hole-in-one on both days.

The creation of this Spanish Individual Senior Pitch & Putt Championship in 2009 by the Pitch & Putt Committee of the RFEG responded to the need to meet the growing demand for competitions in this specialty of golf, so popular among Spanish players in recent times.

A list of winners dominated by five golfers

Five golfers stand out at first glance at the competition's list of winners, which until 2022 included male and female categories: Pía Allende and Laura Batista, winners on three occasions, and Alejandro Muñoz, and Rafael Santonja and Juan Fernández-Ardavín, winners twice.
Focusing on the men's competition, the first winner, in 2009, was Alejandro Muñoz, who repeated his victory just one year later. Subsequent wins came from Juan Ortín, José López, Antonio Fernández, José Ángel Pérez, Francisco José Cisneros, Ángel Ríos, Rafael Santonja, Juan Fernández-Ardavín (both on two occasions), Fernando Cabezudo, Rafael Canomanuel, Marcos Gómez, and Javier Niederleytner.
