The fourteenth edition of the traditional Pitch & Putt Match between the Spanish and Portuguese national teams was decided in favor of the Portuguese team after the third and final day, reserved for individual matches.

After a first day marked by extreme parity—with the Fourball and Foursome doubles matches ending in a 3-3 tie—the individual matches ultimately tipped the scales in Portugal's favor. The visiting team recorded three wins, two draws, and only one loss, for a 4-3 score that left the final result at 7-5 and secured Portugal's third consecutive victory in the tournament.

In the singles matches of the Spain-Portugal Pitch & Putt 2026, the only Spanish victory came from Antón Pérez, who defeated Arnaldo Paredes 3/2. Noel Calzadilla and Javier Pérez drew their matches against Joao Monteiro and Antonio Tendeiro, respectively. Meanwhile, César Crespo, Hugo Carro, and César Fernández de Caleya lost to Tomás Ribeiro (2/1), Matteo Balzer (2/1), and Hugo Espírito Santo (3/2).

Maximum equality at the start of the tournament

The first day, dedicated entirely to the pairs matches in the Fourball and Foursome modalities, was marked by a remarkable balance between both teams.

In the Fourball matches, Portugal took a slight lead with two wins and one loss (2-1). Hugo Espírito Santo and Tomás Ribeiro defeated Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro, while Arnaldo Paredes and Matteo Balzer did the same against César Crespo and Javier Pérez, both matches decided by 1 up. The Spanish point was secured by Noel Calzadilla and César Fernández de Caleya, who convincingly beat Joao Monteiro and Antonio Tendeiro 4/2.

Next, the Foursome matches resulted in the same partial score of 2-1, although this time in favor of Spain, leaving the overall result of the opening day in a tight tie (3-3).

In this second series, Noel Calzadilla and César Fernández de Caleya once again secured the first Spanish point against Joao Monteiro and Antonio Tendeiro (1 up), while César Crespo and Javier Pérez avenged their earlier defeat against Arnaldo Paredes and Matteo Balzer, also by 1 up. The only Portuguese point was won by the pair of Hugo Espírito Santo and Tomás Ribeiro, who triumphed over Antón Pérez and Hugo Carro 4/3.

Spain leads the historical standings

This Match, which has been played since 2007 —established as one of the oldest Pitch & Putt matches on the continent—, has only been interrupted in the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2021 and 2025. After the current edition, the historical record reflects a clear Spanish dominance, with nine victories to Portugal's five.

The rivalry began with a Spanish victory (6.5-5.5) at Quinta de Lágrimas, where Spain secured its second international win just six months after defeating France. That victory led to a run of four consecutive wins between 2007 and 2010.

The Match returned to the calendar in 2014 with a 7-5 Portuguese victory, although Spain regained the lead a year later at Quinto Coto Golf. In 2016, again at Quinta de Lágrimas, Portugal secured their second win after forcing and winning a playoff, culminating a remarkable comeback in the singles matches.

In 2017, Spain secured a resounding 9-3 victory at the Juan Antonio Samaranch Sports City in Madrid, a success they repeated in 2019 (7-5) at the Portuguese courses of Quinta do Fojo and Citygolf. In March 2020, the Spanish team triumphed again, this time 9-3, at El Campanario Golf (Málaga), and in 2022, after a two-year hiatus due to health reasons, the Match returned with a Spanish victory (8-4) at Amendoeira Golf (Portugal).

However, since that 2022 edition, the last three events —2023, 2024 and the present one— have fallen to the Portuguese side, consolidating the best historical moment of the Portuguese team in this competition.
