. The growing involvement of the RFEG and other Spanish golf institutions in promoting the socio-economic, social, and environmental benefits of the sport has contributed to improving its image within Spanish society as a whole.

. Jon Rahm's victory at The Masters and Carlota Ciganda's epic performance in the Solheim Cup, held for the first time in Spain, were two historic events of enormous magnitude during 2023.

Milestones are defined as specific yet significant events that mark an important moment in the development of a process or in a person's life. The broader and richer the history, the greater the number of milestones it contains, reinforcing a sense of glory that, in the case of sports in general and golf in particular, becomes increasingly appealing.

The founding of Las Palmas Golf Club in Gran Canaria in 1891, the first golf club inaugurated in our country; the oldest tournaments in Spain; the creation of the Federation of Golf Clubs of Spain in 1932, the current Royal Spanish Golf Federation; the first master's license given to a woman, Elvira Larrazábal; Costa de Azahar, the first public course; the World Cup, a major sporting event in Madrid… were some of the milestones reflected in previous issues of this publication.

Following that thread, below are other of the most representative milestones of the extensive and prolific history of golf in Spain, in this case much closer in time, to the point that, with this, the installments of this synopsis of the great events that have characterized our sport since the end of the 19th century conclude.

Of course, there are many more that could certainly be included in this report, prepared for posterity, but all of them reflect the vibrancy of a sport that always wanted to grow.

Highlights from the fourth installment included the inauguration of the National Golf Center; the 75th anniversary of the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation); golf's inclusion in the Olympic Program; and the farewell to Severiano Ballesteros, among many other things. This time, we arrive at the fifth chapter of the great milestones in our golf history, which begins with the consolidation of social media as a communication tool for events in our sport. The year was 2019, and…

2019 – We enjoyed golf together

The official Facebook page dedicated to the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation) has reached ten thousand followers. The Communications Department kept the federation's profile updated daily on this social network, as well as on others such as Twitter and, later, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn. Nearly 80% of Spanish golf courses with fewer than 18 holes, and more than 60% of those with 18 holes or more, use reclaimed or desalinated water unsuitable for human consumption for irrigation. This was one of the main conclusions of the 'Study of Water Use in Spanish Golf Courses' presented at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid.

2019 – Digitalization arrives in Spanish golf

The National Golf Centre, home of the RFEG (Royal Spanish Golf Federation) and considered the home of Spanish golf, has once again become a benchmark by revolutionizing its school and driving range with Toptracer technology. This combination of technology and fun transforms the driving range into a leisure and entertainment space for players of all levels. This system, which records and tracks shots, was previously limited to television broadcasts of the PGA Tour and European Tour.

2020 – A Spaniard reigns in world golf 30 years later

Covid-19 was to blame for 2020 being a practically deserted year in the sporting field, but among the shadows we find a wonderful piece of news: Jon Rahm reaches number one in the World Ranking, something that had not happened since Seve Ballesteros did it three decades ago.

2020 - Luis Álvarez de Bohorques passes away

The feat took place on June 21, exactly five years after turning professional, making him the first Spaniard to win this legendary tournament founded in 1895.

2021 – A positive Covid test prevents Jon Rahm from playing in the Olympic Games

Jon Rahm tested positive for Covid-19 just four days before the start of the Tokyo Olympic Games, which is why he was unable to attend and was ultimately replaced by Jorge Campillo to partner Adri Arnaus in the men's competition. Rahm's positive result was detected after he underwent a third consecutive PCR test, mandatory for anyone who had been in the United Kingdom, as was the case for the Basque golfer, who had just finished playing in The Open.

The first two PCR tests came back negative, but the third was positive. Following this, two more PCR tests were performed, which also came back positive, preventing him, according to protocols, from traveling to Japan.
