The Spanish Senior Mixed Doubles Championship, one of the most popular tournaments on the calendar, despite having only run for four editions, has successfully concluded at Lerma Golf with the victory of the pair formed by Julián García-Mayoral and Patricia Segura.
The second day, played in Greensome format, made its decision and left this duo at the top of the leaderboard with a total of 139 strokes, thanks to a final round of 69 strokes added to the 70 strokes of the first day.
In second position, two strokes behind the winning duo, were two pairs, Enrique Martínez and Victoria Rivero, and Carlos Ortega and María Castillo, with final rounds of 75 and 72 strokes respectively.
Enrique Martínez and Victoria Rivero, first leaders
The course, designed by José Gancedo and inaugurated in 1992, brought together a total of forty-four pairs, and of all of them, the most successful duo after the close of the first day was that made up of Enrique Martínez and Victoria Rivero, after signing a result of 66 strokes under Fourball modality.
In second place, keeping a close eye on the leading pair, was the duo of Mónica Jessen and Diego Losada, with a score of 67. The provisional podium was completed by the pairs of Víctor and María Chávarri, and Carlos Ortega and María Castillo, both with rounds of 69. These last two pairs had won the previous two editions, in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
It's worth remembering that the Fourball format, used on the first day, is also called "best ball" and involves each player hitting their own ball, with the lower of the two scores being used to determine the pair's result for that hole. In contrast, the Greensome format requires both players to tee off on each hole, the pair then chooses the best ball, and the golfer whose drive was discarded plays the second shot. From that point on, the players alternate shots until the hole is completed.
