QUARTER FINALS
The first day of the Spanish National Youth Federation Championship, 'XII Memorial Blanca Mayor', under match play format and with the quarter-finals in play, confirmed the qualification of Andalusia, Catalonia, Galicia and Castilla y León for the semi-finals.
In this first day of head-to-head matches, the Andalusian team —the best ranked in the preliminary stroke play phase— dominated the Balearic team, giving them hardly any chances, with a resounding score of 4.5-0.5.
And that's where the expected results ended, as the other three quarter-final matches produced surprises: the highest-ranked teams in the initial phase were eliminated. The Basque Country, second in the preliminary round, fell to Castile and León, seventh, by 3-2; Madrid, third, couldn't overcome Galicia, sixth, also by 3-2; and Catalonia, fifth, defeated the Valencian Community, fourth, by the same score.
Thus, the semifinals were set with the matches between Andalusia and Catalonia, and Galicia and Castile and León, while the teams that did not pass the first round continued to compete to determine the final standings. Madrid faced the Basque Country and the Valencian Community played against the Balearic Islands.
As for the Second Flight, the bracket of teams that qualified from ninth place onwards, left Cantabria and Aragon, and the Canary Islands and Navarre as the semi-final matches.
To achieve this, the Cantabria team defeated Castilla La Mancha 4-1; Aragon beat the Principality of Asturias 3.5-1.5; while the Canary Islands and Navarre defeated Murcia and Extremadura respectively by the same score: 3-2.
