The 2025 Spanish Interclub Men's Championship has concluded at the Real Club de Golf de Castiello (Bernueces, Asturias) with an exciting final starring the host team and El Prat, with the Castiello team emerging victorious by 2.5-0.5.
Given both teams' history in the tournament, the final match was expected to be high-voltage, and it certainly lived up to expectations. The opening match, the foursomes, pitted Asturian players Alberto Fernández and Juan García-Ochoa against Catalans Xavi Yagüe and Javier Santolaya, and ended in a draw, leaving the outcome to be decided in the singles matches.
In these matches, Miguel Díaz-Negrete took the lead against Castiello after defeating Marcel Fonseca 3/1, and almost at the same time, Pablo Alperi secured the victory for the Asturian team by defeating Josep María Serra 2/1.
In the other Flight A matches, Cerdaña took the bronze medal by defeating Puerta de Hierro; Los Lagos finished fifth after defeating RCG Las Palmas; and Sant Cugat beat La Barganiza for seventh place.
La Herrería, winner of Flight B
In the other bracket of the tournament, known as Flight B, La Herrería triumphed in the final against Alenda Golf 2-1, securing ninth place. Behind these teams, CC Villa de Madrid finished eleventh after defeating Pedreña; Sotograndre beat Terramar for thirteenth place; and Guadalhorce finished fifteenth after defeating Vallromaes.
Castiello and El Prat, magnificent finalists of the tournament
The 2025 Spanish Interclub Men's Championship reached the final day of the tournament with Castiello and El Prat as the protagonists of the decisive match.
To achieve this, the host club's team eliminated the Puerta de Hierro team by a clear score of 3-0, the same result with which the El Prat team eliminated the Cerdaña team.
In the remaining Flight A matches, which included the top eight finishers from the previous round, Los Lagos and RCG Las Palmas defeated La Barganiza and Sant Cugat respectively, so the first two fought for sixth place and the last two fought for eighth place, given that Puerta de Hierro and Cerdaña fought for the bronze medal.
La Herrería and Alenda Golf, in the Flight B final
As for the so-called Flight B, the tournament bracket that included the teams that qualified from ninth to sixteenth place in the qualifying round, the finalists were La Herrería and Alenda Golf, after they defeated CC Villa de Madrid and Pedreña respectively in the semifinals.
Thrilling start to the Match Play phase
The 2025 Spanish Interclub Men's Championship continued its development with the Match Play phase, in which the first eight teams classified in the qualifying round faced each other, that is, the team of the host club, Castiello, as well as El Prat, Los Lagos, Puerta de Hierro, Sant Cugat, Cerdaña, La Barganiza and RCG Las Palmas (+17).
In these matches there were no surprises and the highest-ranked teams advanced, except in the case of the match between Los Lagos and Cerdaña, as the Catalans, sixth, defeated the Aragonese, third, by 2-1.
In the other matches, Castiello defeated RCG Las Palmas 2.5-0.5, and Puerta de Hierro beat San Cugat by the same score, while El Prat, the defending champion, beat La Barganiza 3-0.
Thus, the semifinals of this 2025 Spanish Interclub Men's Championship left Castiello facing Puerta de Hierro and Cerdaña facing El Prat, while the teams that fell in the quarterfinals continued fighting for the fifth to eighth places.
As for the so-called Flight B, the one for the teams that qualified in the previous round from ninth to sixteenth, the corresponding semi-finals were also certified, which pitted CC Villa de Madrid against La Herrería, and Alenda against Pedreña, after these teams defeated Terramar, Guadalhorce, Sotogrande and Vallromanes respectively in the quarter-finals.
Following the main draw's playing system, the teams that lost in the quarterfinals continued in the competition to establish the final overall ranking.
Castiello and Nicolás Vidal from the Canary Islands, protagonists of the first day
The qualifying round was dominated by the host team, with a cumulative score of -4, thanks in large part to Miguel Díaz-Negrete's -3. His round, while excellent, wasn't the best of the day. That honor went to the young Canarian talent Nicolás Vidal (-5), who propelled his team, representing the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, to eighth place.
The top eight in the qualifying round who earned the right to fight for the title were Castiello (-4), El Prat (+3), Los Lagos (+7), Puerta de Hierro (+9), Sant Cugat (+14), Cerdaña (+15), La Barganiza (+16) and RCG Las Palmas (+17).
