The Ladies European Tour faces its decisive stretch of the season at La Sella Open, where the top five ranked players in the Order of Merit, led by England's Mimi Rhodes, meet at La Sella Golf (Dénia, Spain), from September 18 to 21.
Recognized with the 'Best Service to Players' award in 2024, the tournament is once again establishing itself as an essential event on the European women's calendar, attracting a star-studded squad in search of the title.
Shannon Tan, Sara Kousková, Cara Gainer, and Casandra Alexander lead a field of 132 players who will compete in a 72-hole stroke play tournament on one of the most iconic courses on the Mediterranean coast. After the first two rounds (36 holes), the top 60 professionals will continue their quest for the title.
In 2024, German Helen Briem was crowned champion after signing a spectacular final round of 66 strokes (-6), free of bogeys, which allowed her to reach a total of -18 and conquer her first title on the Ladies European Tour.
Voted 'Tournament of the Year' by the players in 2023, La Sella Open has established itself as a benchmark for women's golf in Europe. Its organizational excellence and commitment to offering the largest prize purse in Spain, along with one of the most prestigious on the continent, make it an essential event on the international calendar.
Rhodes, who already has three LET victories this season and comes from shining with a hole-in-one at the Women's AIG British Open, will experience her first La Sella Open with the hope of continuing her great form.
Regarding the pressure of maintaining her ranking, Rhodes acknowledged: “It’s on my mind, but it doesn’t stress me out too much. I feel good; I was working in England last week with my short game coach and I feel very comfortable, so I’m looking forward to this week.”.
The Englishwoman also emphasized her personal connection to the tournament: “It’s a beautiful tournament and the courses are quite similar to those in the south. Although it’s not my home country, it’s very special to have my father here; we drove here together from Sotogrande.”.
At 24, Rhodes maintains a strong connection with Spain, the country she moved to as a child and with which she strengthened her relationship last month by becoming the official ambassador of Sotogrande.
Czech Sara Kousková also has a special relationship with Spain, a country where she has already won two titles, including the Tenerife Open last May, where she beat Helen Briem, champion of La Sella Open 2024, by one stroke.
Regarding that connection, Kousková commented: “I really like Spain; I love the food, the relaxed atmosphere, and the good weather almost all the time, and that makes me feel happy on the course. I just want to focus on the right mindset, on playing my golf without getting too distracted by the scores or the standings.”.
Carolina López-Chacarra, the great Spanish hope who makes her debut in the LET
This week, Spanish amateur Carolina López-Chacarra makes her LET debut. She already shone in her first major tournament appearance, finishing 36th in the US Women's Open, one of the few amateurs to make the cut and compete in all four rounds.
Regarding her debut in Spain, the 22-year-old player commented that “it’s very special, the course is wonderful and having my family here makes it even better. There are also several friends I played with at university and I’m excited to see them again and compete together.”
Talent runs in the family: his older brother, Eugenio López-Chacarra, is also a professional and, after his time on the LIV Tour, returned to the DP World Tour, where he achieved his first victory at the Hero Indian Open 2025.
Carolina arrives fully focused on the course designed by José María Olazábal and the challenges it presents: “It’s a fairly narrow course, so you have to be precise off the tee. The greens are small, so I think good ball striking will be key. And if the putts go in, this course can be a lot of fun.”
Her debut at La Sella Open marks another step in her promising career and reinforces the tournament's commitment to promoting young female golfers. At just 22 years old, Carolina has already demonstrated talent and a competitive spirit on the most demanding stages, and her presence in Dénia is a special draw for the local fans, who will be able to closely follow one of the great hopes of Spanish golf.
La Sella Open: Living legacy of women's golf
The 2025 Sella Open has inaugurated a tradition intended to symbolize the growth of women's golf and the legacy of its champions. At the opening ceremony, Nuria Iturrioz and Helen Briem, winners of the 2023 and 2024 editions respectively, accompanied by La Sella Golf's head greenkeeper, Jimena Blanco, planted the first seeds. These seeds will be transplanted to the course, between holes 10 and 11, after the tournament concludes, to create a commemorative forest that will grow year after year.
Each future champion will add a tree with her name, continuing a living legacy that will pay tribute to the players, their stories and their contribution to the development of La Sella Open and women's golf in Europe.
