The 2025 Spanish International Under 18 Men's Championship, a qualifying event for the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking and the National Under 18 Ranking, which was successfully held at Fontanals Golf Club in Girona, has stayed at home thanks to the great victory of Yago Horno.
The Andalusian player already showed his credentials on the third day, when he staged a great comeback and reached fourth position, and in this last round, with a card of 67 strokes (-5), he has finished the job.
Yago Horno's performance is even more impressive considering he completed the first 9 holes at par, with a bogey and a birdie, but it was in the second half that he showed all the golf he has inside, scoring five birdies on holes 10, 12, 13, 15 and 18, which are worth a championship.
Yago Horno, runner-up a few weeks ago in the prestigious The Boys Amateur Championship 2025, has once again shown that he is in great form and is one of the great gems of the Spanish amateur golf scene.
Behind the golfer from Cadiz was the Swiss Max Tabone, with one more stroke, and the Englishman Ben Sessions completed the podium, while other well-ranked Spaniards were Fernando Cobo, Raúl Gómez and Nicolás Vidal, who shared ninth position.
Excellent start from Nicolás Vidal
The 2025 Spanish Under 18 Men's International Championship began in Girona with the first 18 holes leaving Spain's Nicolás Vidal and Portugal's João Crasi in first place after both signed remarkable cards of 66 strokes (-6).
Both the Gran Canaria native and the Portuguese player completed the demanding Girona course with seven birdies and only one bogey, and in the case of Nicolás Vidal, he was able to overcome the fact of making that error on the first hole by making a birdie on the 3rd hole, and it was in the second half that he unleashed his full potential by beating the course on holes 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 18.
Despite these good results, Nicolás Vidal and João Crasi were just one stroke behind the German Frank Maximilian and the Irishman Gordon Sillet, and behind them, in a large fifth position, came two Spaniards, Teo Senoglu and Pol Teruel, with rounds of 68 strokes (-4).
Triple lead after the second day
The second day of the 2025 Spanish International Under-18 Men's Championship highlighted the tremendous parity and superb level of golf in the tournament. The best proof of this was that after 36 holes, three players shared the lead: Spaniards Nicolás Vidal and Teo Senoglu, and Dutchman Youp Orsel.
This second round of the 2025 Spanish Under 18 Men's International began with Nicolás Vidal sharing the lead with the Portuguese João Crasi, but his narrow margin over the rest of the participants promised a tough fight for the top spot, and so it was.
In any case, although the Canary Islander did not repeat his first-day scorecard, his round of 70 strokes (-2) allowed him to maintain first place, although sharing it with Teo Senoglu, who scored 68 strokes (-4), and with Youp Orsel, one of the best of the day with a score of 67 strokes (-5).
Third place for Nicolás Vidal and a great comeback by Yago Horno in the third round
The Spanish Under 18 Men's International 2025 gave no respite and after the third day, the Swiss Max Tabone and the Englishman Ben Sessions took the lead in the event.
Behind them was Spain's Nicolás Vidal, one stroke behind, while Yago Horno climbed 26 places to fourth after an excellent round of 65 strokes (-7).
The third day of the tournament also served to establish the corresponding cut in the classification, which a total of 63 players saved.
