The Playa Serena Golf Club, in Roquetas de Mar (Almería), is once again on the international scene of professional golf on the Alps Tour for the second consecutive year —and the third time in its history— with the celebration of the Alps de Andalucía–Roquetas de Mar, a test of the prestigious circuit where the future stars of world golf compete.

From June 4th to 6th, the Almería course will host this revamped event, which for the first time incorporates the dual name “Andalucía–Roquetas de Mar,” thus reinforcing its connection with the tourist destination and its international reach. The best players on the circuit will arrive at Playa Serena with the aim of winning and, in the case of the Spanish players, the hope of maintaining the winning streak of our golf, which already boasts six victories this season: Álvaro Hernández Cabezuela from the Canary Islands (2), Javier Barcos and Asier Aguirre from Navarre, Rocco Repetto-Taylor from Andalusia, and Jorge Maicas from Aragon.

Ms. Amalia López, Councillor for Tourism and Beaches of the Roquetas de Mar City Council, affirms that “the Alps de Andalucía–Roquetas de Mar tournament is a magnificent opportunity to further position Roquetas as a top-tier tourist and sporting destination. Mr. Pablo Mansilla, president of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, explains that “the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation is thrilled that the Alps Tour is returning to Andalusia once again, specifically to Almería, and at the Playa Serena Golf Club in Roquetas de Mar, a course that has proven itself worthy of professional golf. For his part, Mr. Francisco Javier Martín, director of the Playa Serena Golf Club, emphasized the importance of this event: “This tournament represents the consolidation of a professional competition in Almería, specifically in Roquetas de Mar. Our goal is to continue gaining international visibility, always maintaining a high standard of quality, both in the organization and in the condition of the course, which is in optimal condition to host events of this level. For our members, the Board of Directors, and the tourist destination itself, it is very significant to close the first part of the season with a tournament of this caliber. It is a challenge, but also a source of pride and enormous satisfaction for everyone who is part of the club.”

A professional golf story that continues to grow

The Alps Tour also visited Playa Serena in 2024, with American Brandon Kewalramani taking the victory at the Roquetas de Mar Alps Tour. Spaniard Marcos Pastor was the highest-placed Spaniard, tied for third. Local talent Arián Rodríguez also shone, achieving a valuable top-10 finish on home soil.

However, the club's relationship with the Alps Tour dates back to 2013, the year Playa Serena debuted on the circuit by hosting the Alps de Andalucía. That tournament was particularly memorable, as it saw Spaniard Pol Bech crowned champion, followed by his compatriots Carlos Balmaseda and Javier Colomo, who tied for second place. That victory marked the fourth Spanish win of the season on the Alps Tour.

Furthermore, the club's international experience extends beyond the Alps Tour. Ten years later, in 2023, the course designed by Peter Alliss and Ángel Gallardo, renowned for its challenging long holes and technical greens, also hosted the Challenge de España, part of the HotelPlanner Tour (then the Challenge Tour). On that occasion, the young French amateur Martin Couvra claimed the title, paving the way for his professional career, while Lucas Vacarisas, a member of the ProSpain Team of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, was the top Spaniard, tying for fourth place.
