Carlota Ciganda has once again won gold at the European Young Masters Individual Championships, and the Spanish team finished at the top of the standings in the Team competition. In the men's category, Xavi Puig, who finished seventh, was the best Spanish finisher.
The Navarrese golfer dominated the European Young Masters from start to finish, posting the best scores of the day on all three days to finish with 205 strokes, ten fewer than her closest competitor, Germany's Caroline Masson. Carlota played a splendid day of golf; although her first round was challenging at two under par, Ciganda played like a champion, not only recovering those losses but finishing two under par (70).
The young player, who has just turned fifteen, has won a title that is not at all new to her and, moreover, faces her participation in the British Women's Professional Open in four days with absolute maturity.
The Spanish team endured a grueling battle to secure the team title they had held in their grasp since the first day. In the final round, the Dutch team rallied to challenge for the championship and finished tied with 646 points in the national standings. Ultimately, the fourth round determined the Spanish team's victory, thanks to Gervasio Cuquejo's 76 strokes.
As for the boys, Lluis García del Moral was unable to repeat his silver medal performance from the previous edition, and Xavi Puig, with 222 strokes, was the highest-placed Spanish player (7th). Gervasio Cuquejo, the other Spanish representative, finished just one stroke behind in ninth place.
