The Paderne Golf Club team has won the Spanish Interclub Pitch & Putt Championship, which was held at the club's facilities, located in the town of Betanzos in A Coruña.

Undoubtedly, the deep knowledge of the course has been a factor that has played in favor of the new champions, but it is also true that the Galicians have starred in some excellent individual matches closed with very good results: 51 strokes for Marcos Cenamor, 52 for Antonio Delicado and 54 for Antón Pérez, while the fourth card, of 63 strokes by Eduardo Roi Luzán, was the discarded result.

Given these results, the Mataleñas team, the defending champions, could do little to trouble the Galician team, but the tireless struggle of Jaime Herrera (54 strokes), Fernando Cirajas (55 strokes), Raúl Toca (56 strokes) and Carlos de Diego (58 strokes) has been rewarded with a commendable second position.

The Aldeamayor team completed the podium, having made a great comeback to achieve the same overall result as the Santander team, a tie broken in favor of the latter because they were the team with the highest playing handicap.

This reaction was largely due to José María Ortiz de Pinedo's great score of 48 strokes, accompanied by Samuel Nieto's 53 strokes, Raquel Ortiz de Pinedo's 57 and Goran Dujkovic's 59.

Slight initial advantage for CG Paderne

The first round of the 2002 Spanish Interclub Pitch & Putt Championship featured the home team and the defending champion as the main protagonists.

The CG Paderne team took the lead with a total of 208 strokes, one less than last year's champion team, CG Mataleñas, from Santander.

The Coruña team totaled 98 strokes in the two Foursomes matches, thanks to the 48 strokes of the pair formed by Eduardo Roi Louzán and Antón Pérez, and the 50 of the duo made up of Antonio Delicado and Marcos Cenamor.

Subsequently, in the Fourball matches, those same pairs achieved scores of 49 and 61 strokes, respectively, for that total of 208 strokes.

As for the CG Mataleñas team, they delivered two results of 46 and 51 strokes, for a total of 97 strokes, in the Foursomes matches, led by Fernando Cirajas and Raúl Toca, and Carlos de Diego and Jaime Herrera.

Then, in the Fourball matches, they signed two results of 58 and 54 strokes (112 strokes), which left them just one stroke behind the leaders with a total of 209 strokes.

In third position was the Barbanza Golf team, with a total of 212 strokes.

Six holes in one

In addition to the final results, it's worth highlighting the holes-in-one achieved in this championship. There were six in total: two by Jorge de la Riva, on holes 12 and 14; and those by Vicente Romeo and Hans Sarmiento on hole 11, Gustavo Marcos on hole 1, and Hugo Carro on hole 3.

Final Results

1. CG Padierne 365 strokes

2. Aldeamayor CG 374 hits

3. CG Mataleñas 374 strokes
