The firm commitment to sustainability, respect for health and competition protocols, a record attendance and fast-paced play that was not lacking in competitiveness characterized the celebration, at the Candeleda Golf course, of the second event of the year of the Spanish 9-hole Cup, an initiative promoted by the RFEG and the Autonomous Golf Federations as a vehicle for promoting this sport, which is also part of the actions of the Communication and Companies Cup.

The success of the 9-hole Spanish Cup continues to demonstrate the immense popularity of this format. This time, players from the Tiétar Valley area, along with those from nearby courses – Palomarejos, Guadyerbas, Talayuela, Illescas, Naturávila, etc. – and those traveling from courses in Madrid, quickly filled the registration slots, generating a huge waiting list. This has led course managers and organizers to consider expanding the tournament to two days in future editions.

The one hundred and twenty participants competed in the two scheduled tournaments, individual and pairs, in just five hours, with prize-giving, raffles, photo reports and interviews with winners in record time, observing all the health protocols recommended by the RFEG.

Taking advantage of the fact that the competition coincided with World Environment Day, the organization gave the golfers biodegradable balls to underline the commitment to sustainability that Candeleda Golf in particular and Spanish golf as a whole make every day, a commitment supported by numerous studies that certify it.

The winners of the tournament were Domingo Cabaña (Guadyerbas) in the individual category, with 23 points. Herminio de la Llave and Alberto Gómez-Palomo (Talayuela) were the best in the pairs category, with 27 points, while the most outstanding in the 5th category was María Begoña Pérez (Illescas) with 21 points.

This 9-hole Spanish Cup, now in its fifth edition, features a new format that also affects the playing handicap of those taking part in the competitions and is specially designed for those who do not have enough time to play a full round and also attend to family commitments.

This 9-hole Spanish Cup was also created with the aim of spreading the concept of Golf is Health as a scientifically recognized sport that is beneficial, while also offering sustainable alternatives without losing intensity and competitiveness.

This Circuit also aims to emphasize the great work done by inland courses, including those in more challenging locations, that are committed to hosting championships that help promote golf in their areas of influence.

The winners of the 5th category are also awarded, since the format, open to all types of amateur players and with the aim of promoting competition, is especially adapted to novices, who require extra motivation while discovering the values of golf such as health, social, economic, sporting and environmental sustainability.

The widespread satisfaction of those who participate and of the clubs that host these types of events is due to several factors, including the fact that golfers can choose, in a single day of competition, the start time and playing style, individual or in pairs, with registrations usually filling the courses to the limit of their capacity.

Similarly, golfers who, lacking sufficient time during the weekend to participate in 18-hole tournaments, had given up on competition and improving their handicap are being rescued.

This 9-hole Spanish Cup, promoted by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, has the support of the Regional Federations, along with the Association of Journalists and Reporters (APEI) and numerous companies that support the format: Polo Swing, Hyundai, Toyota KOBE, Castellana Golf, Bodegas HABLA, Oleomile, Coca-Cola, RentingPlus, among others.
