Jacobo Cestino continues his winning streak. Having become one of the most outstanding golfers on the national senior scene in record time, in a period made even more complicated by the suspensions caused in 2020 by the pandemic, the Andalusian added to his list of achievements this Sunday at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, becoming the Spanish Individual Champion in his category for the first time.

The golfer from La Zagaleta (Málaga) has maintained a very consistent level throughout the competition. He started with a sensational 72, which put him just shy of the lead, then held by Jorge García and Estanislao Urquijo (71). He then took the lead with a 73 on the hot second day and controlled the situation on a third day (75) that was more challenging due to the weather.

After a final day marked by light rain and uncomfortable wind, Cestino finished with 220 strokes, four less than the defending champion, the ever-combative Ignacio González, whose round of 71 strokes, one of the best of the week, led him to climb a good number of positions.

Third place went to one of the main protagonists of this big week for Spanish senior men's golf, Jorge Rubio from Barcelona. Winner of the Doubles alongside Juan Leach, the Terramar player finished with 225 strokes and his best score since Friday (73).

With this new triumph, Jacobo Cestino expands his senior record, which already included victories in the Spanish Individual International and the II National Ranking Tournament in Pineda, both in 2021. Since joining the category just a year ago, his participation in official tournaments has yielded fantastic results.

It is worth noting that this was the third tournament counting towards the 2021 National Senior Men's Ranking. The first was the Spanish International Tournament held in El Saler (Valencia), which Jacobo Cestino won, and the second was the National Senior Men's Ranking Tournament in Pineda (Seville), also won by the Andalusian player. The calendar concludes on July 2nd and 3rd with the Torre de Hércules de Oro International Senior Trophy, to be held at the Real Club de Golf de La Coruña.

The week began with the 2021 Spanish Men's Senior Doubles Championship taking place at the same Madrid venue. The winners were Jorge Rubio and Juan Leach from Barcelona, who secured the victory on the first day.

The tournament winners received their titles from Gonzaga Escauriaza, President of the RFEG, and Jesús Barrera, Director of Sports at CC Villa de Madrid.
