«"The General Sub-Directorate of High Competition of the Higher Sports Council, from a technical sports point of view, has favorably reported on the inclusion of Pitch & Putt within the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, given the small difference of this specialty with the sport of golf, mainly focused on the size of the courses on which it is practiced and taking into account that the inclusion of the specialty in the RFEG is directly linked to the incorporation into its federative structure, reflected in the Statutes, of the so-called Pitch & Putt Committee, which took place in 2003 with the objective of providing this practice with the appropriate regulatory development and the necessary sports structures throughout the State as a prior and necessary step for its recognition as a specialty of the Federation.".
This opinion of the Higher Sports Council determines that Pitch & Putt is a golf specialty and that, as such, the only competent body for its regulation in the Spanish national territory is the Sports Federation that controls and regulates its development, in this case the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and, in the autonomous areas, the corresponding Territorial Federations dependent on the RFEG.
In accordance with this CSD ruling, the RFEG has the exclusive responsibility to recognize and provide appropriate regulatory, technical and sporting frameworks for this golf specialty, which is gaining increasing acceptance among fans in Spain.
Pitch & Putt is a golf specialty characterized mainly by three unique elements: it is played on short par 3 golf courses, tee times can be taken from artificial surfaces, and a limited number of clubs are usually used.
The need for the rules that generally govern the practice of golf to also apply to Pitch & Putt, thus harmonizing them, has been achieved through the 'Pitch & Putt Regulations' which can be consulted in full on the official website of the RFEG, www.golfspainfederacion.com, in the Technical Committees/ Pitch & Putt Committee section (Left vertical menu).
Through the resolution of the Higher Sports Council, it is also ratified that the organization of the Spanish Pitch & Putt Championships and the various Regional Pitch & Putt Championships that may be held in our country are the direct and exclusive responsibility of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and the Territorial Federations attached to it, respectively.
Likewise, the selection of teams to compete in international competitions is also the exclusive responsibility of the RFEG.
To develop all the skills, endorsed by top-level sports organizations such as the Higher Sports Council, the RFEG has a specific Technical Committee for this golf specialty, which annually organizes a National Pitch & Putt Circuit, the Spanish Championships of different categories, as well as various international initiatives (international matches) with other European countries with the intention that, in the near future, a European Pitch & Putt Championship can be held.
Apart from these tournaments, in 2008, as a new feature, the Spanish Children's Pitch & Putt Championship will be held at the Madrid High-Performance Center on June 7 and 8, while in November the Spanish Professional Pitch & Putt Championship will take place in Río Cabe (Lugo).
