Gonzaga Escauriaza, president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, was the protagonist of the Ten Golf podcast Bola Provisional the day after the announcement of the Spanish Government's 'de-escalation' plan.

He also participated in the Radio Marca program, in both cases with the return of golf as the central theme within the process of normalizing activity established by the Government of Spain due to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus.

In the first interview, Gonzaga Escauriaza advocated for Phase 1, starting on May 11 in certain areas of Spain, for the return.

The President of the RFEG explained these points and also spoke about the professionals, the different needs of golf courses according to their business model, the steps taken by the RFEG at all levels to accelerate the return, and the current status of the protocol for how golf will be played again when possible.

Gonzaga Escauriaza: "The opening of the fields, sooner or later, depends on the government, the Ministry of Health and the CSD"«

Gonzaga Escauriaza stated on the Radio Marca program Bajo Par that "the opening of golf courses in our country does not depend on the RFEG, but on the Government of Spain, the Ministry of Health and the Higher Sports Council.".

Following the Prime Minister's remarks on the procedures to be followed during the "de-escalation" and the different phases established to gradually normalize activity in our country, the president of the RFEG held talks with the CSD: "We interpret that the sport of golf is included within Phase 1, but in order to take the step of opening the courses, the seal and OK of the Ministry of Health is required, and then the order of the Higher Sports Council.".

«"The Royal Spanish Golf Federation doesn't have the authority to make that decision on its own. We're waiting for their approval. The courses are ready. They've been working as hard as they can under these circumstances to get the courses in the best possible condition. What we are certain of is that we want to do this as quickly as possible and get golf back up and running as soon as possible," stated Gonzaga Escauriaza.
