José Luis Ballester from Castellón and Marta López from Almería have managed to retain their title in the Spanish Mixed Doubles Championship held at the La Faisanera course in Segovia.

The winning pair overcame Javier Neira from Asturias and Carla Tejedo from Castellón on the first tiebreaker hole, with whom they finished tied after the 36 holes of competition, played under the fourball and greensome modalities.

The two duos overtook the Barcelona pair David Puig and Berta Sánchez in the second round, who took the lead at the end of the first round, when they acquired a two-stroke advantage over the duo made up of Eduard Rousaud and Andrea de Sentmenat.

The provisional leaders, very accurate at all times, presented a card of 59 strokes, at that moment four more than the aforementioned José Luis Ballester – Marta López and Javier Neira – Carla Tejedo.

Both pairs, very successful on the second day, handed in two cards of 63 strokes, a record that allowed them to outpace those ahead of them by three and five strokes before playing the tiebreaker playoff that ended with the triumph of José Luis Ballester and Marta López, who with this increase a national record that in 2019 has also been enhanced in both cases with the triumph in the Spanish Under 16 Championship.
