The eighteen Spanish golfers present at the Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open, a tournament integrated into the LET Access Series, which is being held from October 14 to 16 at the Gambito Golf Club Calatayud course, are ready to end the solid foreign dominance in this important competition, which is in its fifth edition.
The winners of the four tournaments held to date have come from England in the first three cases - Amy Taylor was the best in 2022; Hanna Screen finished first in 2023; and Ellie Gower won in 2024 - while the Swede Andrea Lignell lifted the winner's trophy in 2025.
The objective, despite the undeniable quality of the Spanish players, is always complicated, since Calatayud brings together a sensational group of players, with the aim of continuing to add points in the Ranking of this circuit, a prelude to the Ladies European Tour, now that the season only has four tournaments left to play.
That is why Gambito Golf Club Calatayud hosts the best professional players on this international circuit, with the intention, in addition to winning, of achieving one of the top seven positions in the Ranking that provide direct access in 2027 to the superior circuit, the LET.
Special mention for the presence of twelve of the winners in the fifteen competitions on the calendar held so far, including the Frenchwoman Lauren Holmey and the Swiss Natalie Armbruester, who arrive in Calatayud distinguishing themselves as the first two in the LETAS Ranking of 2026.
At the rear are María Villanueva, Elena Melich, Clara Moyano and María Herráez, the Spanish women best placed in the aforementioned LETAS Ranking as a result of the results obtained throughout the year.
María Parra, twice runner-up in the Spanish Professional Championship and with a victory in the Symetra Tour - the promotional circuit in the United States - or Ana Pina - with good results in the National Professional Women's Circuit this season, highlighting her victory in Álava and her second place in La Coruña - also arrive in good form.
Also of interest is the participation of players with international experience, such as Marina Escobar or Constanza Guerrero, who have played in several LET tournaments.
Also noteworthy is the participation of two representatives from Aragon: Elisa Orduna, as a professional, and Iona García, as an amateur, whose presence represents an opportunity to showcase local talent in this international competition.
Three days of professional golf and an experience for everyone
The tournament, which will be played between October 14 and 16 - with a prior ProAm taking place on October 13 - brings together more than one hundred players from twenty countries.
In addition to the aforementioned Pro-Am, which will allow amateur players to share the day with professional players, the event will include numerous parallel activities at the Calatayud club.
As a final touch, it is worth highlighting the American Express LETAS Experience on Saturday, October 17th, where amateur golfers can enjoy the same course and attention as the professional players throughout the competition, emphasizing camaraderie and gastronomy with open proposals that consolidate the event as a social event beyond the sporting sphere.
Essential support for the development of the tournament
This event is supported and coordinated by the Calatayud City Council and the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of the Government of Aragon, which are among the tournament's main official sponsors. These joint efforts aim to boost sports tourism in the region and showcase the rich cultural, historical, and natural heritage of the city and its surroundings.
The tournament also has the valuable support of sponsoring companies that make this event possible, including Iberdrola, DF Grupo, Reale Seguros, JAB, Dos Maderas, Malpastor, Veolia, American Express, Mahou, Cubical, Schweppes, Volvo, Pepsi, Solán de Cabras and Suministros Espiago, as well as the Let Access Series, the Aragonese Golf Federation and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.
