Two Spanish golfers, Gonzalo Baños and Samuel Love from Andalusia, are part of the team representing continental Europe in the prestigious Jacques Leglise Trophy, an Under 18 category tournament in which they face a team made up of players from Great Britain and Ireland.

First contested in 1958, intermittently during the early years, this now annual event reaches its 58th edition, taking place this time on August 21 and 22 on The Island course in Ireland, just outside Dublin.

This long-established event has historically featured prestigious Spanish golfers such as José María Olazábal, Sergio García, and Jon Rahm, and now it's the turn of Gonzalo Baños and Samuel Love.

The first of them counts in his record the triumph in the Absolute Spanish Championship 2026, the Absolute Madrid Championship 2025 and the Andalusia Cup 2026, apart from, in the collective sphere, the gold medal in the European Under 18 Men's Team Championship 2026 and the Absolute 2025 and Under 18 Spanish Armed Forces Championships 2025 and 2026.

Samuel Love, for his part, won the Spanish Under 16 Championship 2025 and, in team competitions, the Spanish Armed Forces Under 18 Championship 2025 and 2026 as well as the gold medal in the aforementioned European Under 18 Men's Team Championship 2026.

In addition to the Spanish golfers, the European team in this edition includes the Czechs Louise Klein and Vaclav Svub, the Norwegian Mathias Aase, the Icelander Olver Eli Bjornsson - recent winner of the Boys Amateur Championship -, the Italian Giampaolo Gagliardi, the Dutchman Youp Orsel - who usually plays in Spain - and the Frenchman Tao Pemerika, current Under 16 European champion, a diverse group that faces the challenge of achieving the seventh consecutive victory for continental Europe.

The competition system establishes four morning foursomes on each of the two competition days followed by nine singles matches.

The Jacques Leglise Trophy has been held since 1958, and during that time Great Britain & Ireland's dominance has been evident, with 39 victories compared to 17 for the continental European team. However, the last eight continental victories (2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025) have all come in the last nine editions, signaling a shift in the trend that is expected to continue this year.
