Paula Jiménez achieves a resounding victory at the England U16 Women's International Championship

She won in a tiebreaker against Germany's Lorena Guth, while Icíar Rodríguez (3rd in Under 16) and Sofía Gamilla (2nd in Under 14) completed an outstanding Spanish performance in Cambridge

Spanish golf continues to enjoy a summer to remember. Adding to the great results achieved in recent weeks is Paula Jiménez's victory at the English International Under 16 and Under 14 Girls' Championships, where the Catalan player staged a remarkable comeback to win one of the most significant titles of her young career.

The setting was The Gog Magog Golf Club, just outside Cambridge, where Paula Jiménez faced the final round three strokes behind the leader. Far from succumbing to the pressure, the golfer from Terramar Golf Club delivered her best performance when she needed it most, carding an extraordinary 68 (-4) that propelled her to the top.

Her finish was simply spectacular. Paula reached the last three holes forced to attack and responded with determination: three consecutive birdies on the 16th, 17th and 18th to complete a round with six birdies and two bogeys and reach a total of 212 strokes (-7).

That final surge allowed her to tie for the lead with Germany's Lorena Guth and force a thrilling playoff for the title. After tying on the first playoff hole, Paula Jiménez once again displayed her composure on the second to seal a well-deserved victory and put the finishing touch on an unforgettable week.

This triumph also confirms a good season for the Catalan player, who this same year was part of the Spanish team that won the Spain-England Under 16 Match.

The Spanish display in the Under-16 category didn't end with Paula Jiménez. Icíar Rodríguez once again demonstrated her remarkable consistency with a third consecutive round of 71 strokes (-2), finishing in a brilliant third position, just one stroke shy of the score that would have forced a playoff.

The Madrid native was in contention from the first day and finished the tournament with 213 strokes (-6), confirming a performance that allowed Spain to place two players on the podium of this championship.

In addition to these two players, Emma Artigas and Daniela Carrión finished in twentieth and twenty-second place respectively, and Carlota Burcio finished in thirty-third place.

Sofía Gamilla completed the Spanish recital

And as things come in threes, the great Spanish performance in this England Under 16 and Under 14 Women's International was rounded off by Sofía Gamilla, with a brilliant second place in the Under 14 category.

The player from La Cañada Golf Club arrived at the decisive day in second position, just one stroke behind the leader, after having signed a sensational 68 (-5) in the second round, the best score of the day.

The Andalusian fought until the end for the victory and, after delivering a final round of 73 strokes, at even par for the course, finished in a brilliant second place, one stroke behind the winner, the Englishwoman Maybel Brooks.

As for the rest of the Spanish players, Chloe Huang and Cornelia Bermudo, eighth and ninth respectively, have entered the Top 10, Julia Salvadores has been twelfth; Fabiola Merello, fourteenth; Iona Lage, twentieth and Daniela Lozano twenty-second.

Third Spanish champion in England

Paula Jiménez's success expands the Spanish presence in the record books of the England International, as the Catalan joins Cayetana Fernández, Under 14 champion in 2019, and Adriana García Terol, Under 16 winner in 2023.

Apart from those victories, other Spanish women also achieved outstanding results in this tournament, such as Mar García, second in the Under 16 category in 2019, and Icíar Rodríguez, third and fourth in the Under 14 category in the 2024 and 2025 editions.
