Spanish golf is once again well represented, and in greater numbers than ever before, at the England International Girls' Under 16 and Under 14 Championships, which are being held from August 18-20 at The Gog Magog Golf Club, just outside Cambridge. A total of twenty players are participating across the two categories.
The delegation arranged by the RFEG Youth Technical Committee is made up of Iciar Rodríguez from Madrid - who competes in the Under 16 category -, Paula Jiménez from Catalonia, and Sofía Gamilla and Cornelia Bermudo from Andalusia - all three in the Under 14 category -, with Borja Nieto as captain and Xisca Negre as official.
Also playing in England in the Under 16 category - apart from the aforementioned Icíar Rodríguez - are Carlota Burcio, Daniela Carrión, Emma Artigas, Isabel Ping, Martina Cerrillo and Paula Jiménez, while the group of Spanish players who make up the Under 14 group are - apart from the aforementioned Paula Jiménez, Sofía Gamilla and Cornelia Bermudo - Aitana Soler, Cloe Huang, Daniela Lozano, Fabiola Merello, Iona Lage, Julia Salvadores, Liria Siyu Hao, Paula Jiménez Tirado, Valeria Armas and Valvanuz de Blas.
The competition takes place over three days in stroke play format, generating two classifications, Under 16 and Under 14, before establishing at the end of the second day a cut involving the 40% of the golfers from each group to play the final 18-hole round.
The winners of this International England Under 16 and Under 14 Female tournament include the victories of two Spanish players: Cayetana Fernández in the Under 14 category in 2019 at Gerrard Cross Golf Club and Adriana García Terol in the Under 16 category in 2023, with rounds of 71, 71 and 75 strokes for -2 in total, being the only one to defeat the Shifnal Golf Club course, north of Birmingham.
Apart from those victories, other Spanish women achieved outstanding results in this tournament, such as Mar García, second in the Under 16 category in 2019, and Icíar Rodríguez, third and fourth in the Under 14 category in the 2024 and 2025 editions.
