The Boys Amateur Championship, one of the most prestigious tournaments on the international calendar, held at Gailes Links Golf Course in western Scotland, saw no Spanish players reach the Round of 32. All four Spanish representatives who had advanced from the qualifying rounds—Gonzalo Baños, Juan Miró, Javier Domingo, and Mateo Hidalgo—were eliminated in the second round. The tournament was won by Iceland's Óliver Elí Björnsson after a thrilling final against Sweden's Ludwig Libera on the 37th hole.

The disastrous round also saw practically unassailable results, leaving the Spanish golfers with no real chance of reaching the round of 16. This was the case in the first match of the day for Juan Miró against Englishman Cole Self, whom he lost to 6/4.

Mateo Hidalgo and Javier Domingo also failed to find the path to victory, losing to Englishman Ben Sessions and Dane Christian Photin by 3/2 and 4/2 respectively, and while it is true that Gonzalo Baños offered more resistance, he was unable to advance to the next round, losing 2/1 to German Lauri Diener.

Four out of five, the round of 32 suits the Spanish well.

Four of the five Spanish golfers who had qualified for the direct elimination rounds for the title continued in competition after the 1/32 final.

Only Eladio Pérez stumbled in the first round of the knockout stage, losing 4-2 to Dutchman Stijn Egging. The rest of the Spanish players tipped the scales in their favor to reach the round of 32, in most cases with convincing results.

This happened in the match between Javier Domingo and Czech Stepan Plasek - whom he won 4/3 - while Juan Miró defeated Frenchman Paul Velly 3/2. For his part, Mateo Hidalgo found more difficulties in his duel with Italian Paolo Perrino (2/1), in any case less than those that Gonzalo Baños had to overcome in his match against German Luis Brinkmann, which went to the last hole in favor of the Spaniard.

A strong Spanish influence on the list of winners

Spain's tally in this tournament increased in 2010 with Adrián Otaegui's brilliant victory, defeating Germany's Max Rottluf in the final (4/3). Previously, in 2007, the Spanish tally grew with Emilio Cuartero's triumph at Royal Porthcawl (Wales) against Scotland's Fraser Fotheringhram by 1 up.

Previously, Jesús López (1981), José María Olazábal (1983), Francisco Valera (1991), Sergio García (1997), Alfonso Gutiérrez (1999) and Pablo Martín (2001) had accomplished this feat.

Since that aforementioned triumph of Adrián Otaegui, the best results have been the second places achieved by Alejandro Aguilera (2016), José Luis Ballester (2018) and Yago Horno (2025).
