Alejandro de Castro from Barcelona and Sergio Jiménez from Madrid are the Spanish representatives at the 2026 U.S. Amateur, which takes place at the Merion Golf Club and Philadelphia Country Club, both in Pennsylvania. The tournament celebrates its 126th edition, bringing together, once again, the best players in the world.

The competition takes place between August 10 and 16 with the participation of 312 players who fight, first of all, to access the restrictive 64-place knockout bracket established at the end of the second Stroke Play day.

Both Spanish golfers possess quality and experience—the Catalan even recently played in the British Open at Royal Birkdale—as they have demonstrated in recent years with their Long Beach State and Utah teams, as well as with the National Teams. Further proof of this is their Top 10 finishes at the European Individual Championship held last month in Finland.

The ultimate goal of Alejandro de Castro and Sergio Jiménez is to follow a similar path to that of Josele Ballester, winner in 2024 after overcoming all kinds of adversity in Hazeltime National GC, including Luis Masaveu - his rival in the semi-finals.

It is worth remembering that among the most recent winners of the US Amateur are also Richie Ramsay (2006), Edoardo Molinari (2005), Matthew Fitzpatrick (2013), Bryson DeChambeau (2015) or Viktor Hovland (2018), all of them prestigious professionals today.

Previous winners of the event include golf greats such as Matt Kuchar (1997), Tiger Woods (1994, 1995 and 1996), Justin Leonard (1992), Phil Mickelson (1990), Mark O'Meara (1979), Arnold Palmer (1954) and Robert T. Jones Jr (1924, 1925, 1927, 1928 and 1930).
