Fifteen players make up the Spanish delegation that has traveled to the Clitheroe Golf Club course in northern England to face a new edition of the veteran McGregor Trophy, the England Under 16 International Championship, which is being held this time between July 14 and 16.

The high level of participation—144 young golfers from numerous countries—and their quality characterize this competition, in which Spain is represented by a qualified group of players. The Junior Technical Committee has selected a team comprised of Manuel Martín and Joaquín Beltrán from Andalusia, Javier Pérez-Tasso from Catalonia, and Ignacio Iglesias from Valencia—the current Spanish Under-18 Champion—who are supported by coach Toni Planells.

The rest of the delegation consists of Nicolás González, Rodrigo Llorca, Lucas Barra, Leonardo Jiménez, Pablo Basterra, Antonio Muñoz, Iñaki and Eduardo de la Macorra, Gonzalo Guillén, Álvaro Mateu and Rubén Sánchez.

The tournament is played over three days, with 72 holes of medal play. The first two days are played by the 144 golfers, while the final day is reserved for the top forty and those tied for that position, who play 36 holes in a single day to determine the new champion.

Ignacio Puente and Yago Horno, Spanish winners

Spanish golf boasts two victories in this tournament, which began in 1982. The first came in 2015, won by Ignacio Puente from Andalusia, at Wallasey Golf Club. The Sevillian golfer defeated Englishmen Toby Briggs and Charlie Strickland in a playoff.

The second victory came in 2024. The man responsible was Yago Horno from Andalusia, who staged a spectacular comeback in the final round at West Essex Golf Club. There, he carded rounds of 64 and 65 strokes in a single day to secure his first international title.
