.The Spanish team, which achieved promotion to the first category last year, comes to Montecastillo with the greatest possible ambition: to fight for the eighth title for our golf.

Spain has returned to the elite of European Under-18 boys' golf, and is celebrating this week – from July 7th to 11th – in the best possible way, hosting the European Team Championship at the Montecastillo Golf & Country Club in Jerez. The continent's top young athletes are in Spain these days.

The challenge couldn't be more exciting for the six Spanish golfers, as the tournament marks their return to the top tier after competing in the Second Division in 2025. They achieved their long-awaited promotion in Hungary, and now it's time to enjoy themselves in Montecastillo; to enjoy themselves, yes, but also to compete, because Spain has its sights set on everything.

The home team's six players are Yago Horno, Samuel Love, and Gonzalo Baños from Andalusia; Nicolás Vidal from the Canary Islands; Raúl Gómez from Valencia; and Mateo Hidalgo from Madrid. They will be supported at all times by captain Santiago Urquijo, coach Yago Beamonte, and physiotherapist José Mata.

This group has earned its place at this event through hard work, with successes like those achieved by Gonzalo Baños in the Spanish National Championship and Nicolás Vidal in the Puerta de Hierro National Cup. The player from Cádiz and the one from the Canary Islands have been two of the most in-form players throughout the season, and their participation is expected to be crucial at the European Championship.

Apart from the Spanish team, eleven other teams are vying for victory: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Iceland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Netherlands, Wales, England, Norway, France and Scotland.

The competition format consists of two days of stroke play, which establish a ranking before the various knockout rounds for the title. It is essential to finish in one of the top eight positions in the preliminary round to be eligible for the title.

Spain, seven-time champion of the category

Spain has won the European Under-18 Men's Team Championship seven times (1980, 1990, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2011, and 2018). On that last occasion, the victory took place at the Kaskada Brno course in the Czech Republic, and the team consisted of David Puig, Eugenio López-Chacarra, Eduard Rousaud, Gonzalo Leal, Alejandro Aguilera, and Jon López-Lanchares.

Spain's record in this tournament also includes two silver medals (1989 and 2004) and six bronze medals (1982, 1983, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 2022).
