On August 27th, with American Kiara Romero turning professional, Paula Martín rose to number one, marking a historic moment: it was the first time two Spanish players had held the top two spots in the World Amateur Ranking, with Andrea in second place. A week later, the order has changed.
Before them, only one Spanish woman had been number 1 in the World Amateur Ranking: Julia López from Andalusia - now a prestigious professional, member of the European team in the imminent celebration of the Solheim Cup - who earned that privilege on July 24, 2024.
Also noteworthy is the presence of the Spanish women Paula Francisco, Cayetana Fernández and Balma Dávalos in the Top 100 amateur rankings, specifically in positions 25, 29 and 38, respectively.
Two golfers united by Madrid, the National Teams and Stanford
The brilliant sporting careers of Andrea Revuelta and Paula Martín have often run parallel. Both from Madrid, both members of the National Teams on numerous occasions, both students at the prestigious Stanford University, they have both accumulated significant successes in their burgeoning sporting careers.
Andrea Revuelta, 20, boasts a sporting resume with such important triumphs as the Spanish Under 18 Championship in 2021 and the Absolute category in 2023 and 2024; the Spanish Women's International - Copa SM La Reina 2024; gold medals in the European Under 18 Women's Team Championship in 2021 and 2023 and the Absolute category in 2025 and 2026; in the Junior World Team Championship in 2022; and victorious participations in the PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2021 and 2023 and the Junior Ryder Cup in 2023.
For her part, Paula Martín, who turned 21 on September 2nd, was the Spanish Absolute Champion in 2022, the best in the Women's Amateur Championship in 2025 and first in the Absolute Individual European Championship 2025, in addition to winning the NCAA Final with Stanford in 2024 and contributing to the gold medals in the Under 18 European Team Championships in 2021 and 2023 and in the Absolute category in 2025 and 2026, as well as in the Junior World Team Championship in 2022.
The two Spanish players capitalized on Kiara Romero's move to the professional ranks by accumulating the 20 points required by the LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway (LEAP) program, after receiving the Mark H. McCormack Medal. Romero became the second player in history to earn an LPGA Tour card through the LEAP system, after Lottie Woad, a path also pursued by Paula Martín and Andrea Revuelta.
