Club History

Royal Country Club Villa de Madrid

In 1930, the Club de Campo sports society was founded near the Zarzuela Palace on land belonging to the Crown. A year later, ABC newspaper announced its inauguration, highlighting the villa designed by Gutiérrez Soto and its sports facilities. In 1932, a 9-hole golf course opened, marking the beginning of the club's golfing tradition.

In 1942, the club merged with the Royal Spanish Equestrian Society, forming the Royal Spanish Equestrian Society Country Club, which promotes sports such as horse riding, tennis, golf, hockey and swimming.

In 1984, the Madrid City Council acquired 51% of the club and created a mixed public limited company, with the remaining 49% going to the Royal Equestrian Society. Subsequently, the State acquired shares. Since then, the club has undergone a period of modernization, with milestones such as the artificial turf hockey field (1989) and the expansion of the golf course to 18 holes (1992), signed by Mayor José María Álvarez del Manzano and Severiano Ballesteros.

The Villa de Madrid country club stands out for its privileged location and its more than 200 hectares that bring together unique facilities for practicing golf, tennis, horse riding, polo, hockey, squash, padel and swimming, among others.

It boasts sports schools with over 2,500 students and 60 teachers, forming the core of its competitive teams. Currently, the club remains a sporting and social benchmark, hosting national and international events and serving as an example of modern management and excellence in sport.
