Carlota Ciganda, Elia Folch, Mireia Prat, Marta Silva, Ane Urchegui y Adriana Zwanck, capitaneadas por Macarena Campomanes y con Marcelo Prieto como entrenador, constituye el equipo español que participa en el Campeonato de Europa Absoluto Femenino por Equipos que se celebra en La Manga Club, en la provincia de Murcia, entre el 6 y el 11 de julio.
El conjunto español, uno de los 17 países participantes, acude a La Manga Club con la intención de repetir actuaciones tan brillantes como en las ediciones de 1995, 2003, 2005 y 2007, saldadas en todos los casos con la medalla de oro colgada al cuello de las representantes españolas.
Medalla de bronce en 2008 y cuarta clasificada en 2009, España encontrará la oposición de los mejores equipos del continente europeo, Inglaterra entre ellos, que con 8 triunfos encabeza el palmarés de esta competición.
La Manga Club, sede de importantes torneos de carácter profesional y amateur a lo largo de su brillante historia, alberga la vigesimoctava edición de este Campeonato de Europa Absoluto Femenino por Equipos, uno de los torneos más importante del calendario continental, al que las más relevantes golfistas europeas acuden con todo el talento e ilusión a cuestas.
El hecho de que muchas jugadoras que hoy día son referencia en el Ladies European Tour, e incluso en el LPGA, hayan defendido en sus años amateurs los colores de sus países en las 27 ediciones anteriores del Europeo Femenino por Equipos, habla por sí solo de lo que significa esta competición.
Austria, Bélgica, Dinamarca, Inglaterra, Finlandia, Francia, Alemania, Islandia, Irlanda, Italia, Holanda, Noruega, Escocia, España, Suecia, Suiza y Gales son los países que lucharán en esta ocasión por un título sin duda alguna tremendamente competido.
El formato de competición establece dos jornadas stroke play (juego por golpes) que permiten establecer una clasificación antes de disputar las diversas eliminatorias por el título. Es condición indispensable ocupar una de las 8 primeras plazas en la fase previa para optar al título en juego.
Spain prepares for the battle for gold in the European Ladies Team Championship
Carlota Ciganda, Elia Folch, Mireia Prat, Marta Silva, Ane Urchegui and Adriana Zwanck, captained by Macarena Campomanes and coached by Marcelo Prieto, make up the Spanish team for the European Ladies Team Championship, which is taking place in La Manga Club in the Region of Murcia in Spain from July 6th to 10th.
The Spanish contingent, one of the 17 countries taking part, is heading to La Manga Club with every intention of repeating such brilliant performances as in 1995, 2003, 2005 and 2007, all of which ended with the Spanish players sporting gold medals.
Bronze medal winners in 2008 and fourth in 2009, Spain will be facing competition from the best teams in Europe, including England who, with 8 wins behind it, heads the list of previous winners of the tournament.
La Manga Club which, over its brilliant history, has been the venue for major professional and amateur tournaments, is home to the twenty-eighth edition of the European Ladies Team Championship, one of the most important tournaments in the continent’s calendar, which attracts Europe’s top women golfers and all their talent and enthusiasm as well.
The fact that many players who are now key figures in the Ladies European Tour and even the LPGA, formerly defended their countries’ colours during their amateur years in the 27 previous editions of the Ladies European Team Championship, speaks volumes about the significance of this tournament.
On this occasion, the countries battling it out for what will undoubtedly be a fiercely contested title are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales.
The competition format features two days’ stroke play to decide the draw for the match play tournament. Teams must be in the first 8 in the qualifying competition in order to have a chance at the title.
